Our annual golf tournament is coming up on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Trumansburg Golf Course, one of the most beautiful courses in our area. We'd be delighted to have you join us for a day of golf with enthusiastic players and community leaders from surrounding towns and counties. As our largest fundraiser, the proceeds enable the Rotary Club of Trumansburg to fund charitable programs in our community and abroad.
But where, exactly, does the money you help us to raise go?
Locally, our club has contributed to the Ulysses Philomathic Library, the local food panty, the Christmas Bureau, the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts, collects coats for the needy through the Share the Warmth program, and also sponsors local youth programs such as Trumansburg schools' award-winning robotics teams, Femtastic!, and Big Friend/Middle Friend for the Trumansburg/Ulysses Youth Commission.
In addition, we participate in Rotary's Youth Exchange Program (YEP) by sending students overseas and hosting international students in our community in an effort to foster worldwide understanding and friendship. We also send Trumansburg students to our Rotary District's Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) week-long camp at Hartwick College for hands-on leadership training.
In times of need Trumansburg Rotary, with the generous support of our community, has sent shelter boxes to areas battered by natural disasters, including aid to tsunami victims in Thailand and those battered by hurricanes in the Gulf and storms in the Philippines and Puerto Rico, as well as to our neighbors in flood-raved Owego and those downstate affected by Superstorm Sandy.
In 1985 Rotary International initiated the effort to eradicate polio. Rotarians have raised more than 800 million dollars to eradicate polio. With only a few cases remaining in two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan; the end is in sight. The Rotary Club of Trumansburg has helped fund this program and others such as; Hunger Plus, which supplies basic nutrition to the people of 3rd world countries, and Wheel Chairs for Life, which brings mobility and hope to the disabled around the world.
In short, the Trumansburg Rotary Club, as a service organization active at both a local community level and, through Rotary International, is active in worldwide efforts to relieve suffering and promote peach and understanding. But we can't do it without the support of our Rotarian friends and the community.
We look forward to your support, your participation, and your good company at the July 12, 2019 Trumansburg Rotary Golf Classic.
